LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Celebrity socialite Paris Hilton, who was dragged sobbing back to jail, says being in prison is the hardest thing she has ever done, but she will not appeal her sentence, US media reported Sunday.

"Today, I told my attorneys not to appeal the judge's decision," Hilton said in a statement, reported by the Los Angeles Times.

"Being in jail is by far the hardest thing I have ever done," said the 26-year-old heiress to the Hilton hotel fortune who was sentenced to 45 days in jail in May for violating her probation and driving on an suspended license.

Her early release on Thursday, after just three days in jail, triggered a wave of outrage and an angry judge demanded she be brought back to court on Friday, when he ruled she had to go back to prison.

Images of a disheveled, distraught Hilton, far from the cool, glamorous blonde seen gracing catwalks and red-carpet soirees, were seen around the world as she was handcuffed by police and brought before Judge Michael Sauer.

"During the past several days, I have had a lot of time to think, and I believe that I am learning and growing from this experience," Hilton said in her statement.

Sheriff Lee Baca, had on Thursday released Hilton tagged with an electronic ankle bracelet and ordered her to serve out her sentence under house arrest for unspecified "medical reasons."

Stunned prosecutors filed a petition in protest and on Friday Sauer ordered Hilton back to jail to serve out her sentence, which was expected to run 23 days with time off for good behavior.

Hilton apparently broke down, wailing "Mom, Mom, Mom," as Sauer ordered her back to prison saying "the order is final and forthwith."

On Saturday, Hilton was in a Los Angeles jail hospital room, despondent and medicated with a psychotropic drug, gossip site TMZ.com reported.

Her psychiatrist spent two hours Saturday with the detainee, whom sources said had been crying, had not eaten, and was sullen and withdrawn, TMZ said.

But in her statement, Hilton thanked her fans for their messages of support which she said she had been reading in her cell, and took a swipe at Friday's relentless media coverage of the unfolding drama.

"I would hope going forward that the public and the media will focus on more important things, like the men and women serving our country in
Iraq and other places around the world."

LOS ANGELES -- Paris Hilton is "emotionally distraught and traumatized" over her 45-day jail sentence and isn't capable of testifying in a civil lawsuit against her, the socalite-reality TV star's psychiatrist said.

Dr. Charles Sophy has been seeing Hilton, 26, for the past eight months and has talked with her several times since her May 4 hearing for violating the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case, according to court papers.

Sophy said Hilton needs time to recover from the shock of receiving jail time before testifying in a civil case brought against her by actress and diamond heiress Zeta Graff.

Messages left with Hilton's spokesman and lawyer weren't immediately returned early Tuesday.

In court papers filed Monday, Sophy said Hilton is "distraught and traumatized as a consequence of the findings at the May 4 hearing ... and her fear of incarceration."

"At this point in time," he continued, "Ms. Hilton cannot effectively respond to examination as a witness or provide any significant input into her defense."

Graff filed a $10 million lawsuit against Hilton in 2005, claiming the reality TV star spread "vicious lies" about her. Hilton has denied that she was behind a report alleging Graff once tried to grab a necklace worth $4 million from her throat.

Superior Court Judge Linda K. Lefkowitz postponed the trial to August. It had been scheduled to begin this month.

Hilton and her pal Nicole Richie star on "The Simple Life," which throws them into everyday situations. After famously feuding and filming their parts separately last season, the celebutantes have reunited as camp counselors for the show's upcoming fifth installment.

Paris Hilton won't appeal jail term

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Paris Hilton won't appeal the 45-day jail term she was sentenced to earlier this month for violating probation, according to court documents filed Thursday. A lawyer for the 26-year-old socialite notified Los Angeles Count Superior Court that she is abandoning her appeal, said court spokeswoman Katherine Roberts.

Hilton was ordered earlier this month to report to jail by June 5 for violating the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.

Hilton initially called the sentence unfair, and lawyers representing her filed a notice to appeal the sentence.

She then switched attorneys and is now represented by drunken driving specialist Richard Hutton. Hutton did not immediately return several calls for comment Thursday.

Hilton will be jailed for about 23 days of a 45-day sentence and will be separated from the general inmate population, authorities decided after reviewing her case.

The shorter sentence reflects an expectation that Hilton behaves behind bars.

"All inmates get credit for good behavior," Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said Thursday. "The inmate knows that if they behave and follow the rules, that's something to shoot for."

She will be held in a "special needs housing unit" at the Century Regional Detention Center in suburban Lynwood, Whitmore said.

Hilton will stay in a unit that contains 12 two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates, he said.

She could have a cellmate.

Like everyone else in the 2,200-inmate facility, Hilton will get at least an hour outside her cell each day to shower, watch television, participate in outdoor recreation or talk on the telephone, he said.

It seems like it’s an unrelenting bad time for hotel heiress Paris Hilton, for days after a LA court sentenced her to 45 days in prison, she has been named the ‘Bad Girl of the Decade’ by Us Magazine.com.

The magazine claims no one has been naughtier than her, and has cited her panty-less car exit in 2002 and ill advised sex ban as substantial testimonials for the title.

The magazine also said that Hilton, who was found guilty of driving on a banned license, has ‘walked the line between obscenity’ and lawlessness for a long time now, reports Us Weekly.

Meanwhile, the socialite, who recently claimed that she is the most iconic blonde of the decade’ and compared herself to actress Marilyn Monroe and Princess Diana, has started petitioning California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to keep her out of the slammer.

If Hilton fails to report to jail on June 5, she will have to face 90 days behind bars.

Hilton needs to watch out for Lesbians in jail

Hotel heiress, Paris Hilton, should be on her guard in the LA facility where she might end up serving her sentence, for the place is said to have “very masculine lesbians” who get physical with inmates when they are having a group shower.

A woman, who visited her mother in the same facility, said that the place is bad, and predicts that the heiress will have a tough time if she ends up there.

“This place is bad. Paris is not going to make it,” the Sun quoted her, as saying.

The ‘Simple Life’ star who will embark on her sentence next month for driving on a suspended license, has also been warned against acting like a pampered princess.

Another person, Denise Chavis, whose sister is serving her term at the facility, said that if Hilton acts like a high class, she ‘is done’.

“If you act like you’re all high-class and uppity, you’re done,” Chavis said.

Hilton is said to be devastated after a Los Angeles Superior Court judge sentenced her to prison.

“She is devastated and terrified about going to jail. She goes from sobbing to fury,” a pal said.

Speaking to cameramen outside her home, Hilton said that the sentence is cruel and unwarranted, and that she told the truth.

"I told the truth yesterday. I feel that I was treated unfairly," Hilton said.

What Paris Can Expect Behind Bars

LOS ANGELES -- Hopefully, Paris Hilton likes chicken.

She was sentenced Friday to 45 days at the Century Regional Detention Center, Los Angeles County's jailhouse for women just south of downtown in Lynwood.

Inmates there get three low-sodium meals a day, with dinner the only hot meal. Beef and pork aren't permitted _ "it's all poultry-based," said Capt. Alice Scott, who oversees the 2,200-inmate facility she describes as "a very nice place."

Like other high-profile Los Angeles County inmates _ O.J. Simpson, Robert Blake, Robert Mitchum, Sirhan Sirhan and Charles Manson _ Hilton will be segregated from the general population for her own safety, living in a one- or two-person cell.

Inmates are allowed outside their cells for an hour each day to shower, watch television in the day room, participate in outdoor recreation or talk on the telephone, Scott said. There are a bank of phones that use prepaid phone cards _ cellular telephones and Blackberries aren't allowed.

There have been other celebrities at the women's jail. Actress Daryl Hannah, arrested last year for failing to leave a 14-acre inner-city garden where farmers were being evicted, spent a few hours there.

Sometimes stars are allowed to do their time in a jail of their choosing. In such cases celebrities pay a daily room-and-board fee to the smaller jails, which afford them more privacy and comfort.

Sean Penn found a jail in Bridgeport, a remote town on the eastern flank of the Sierra, to serve a 60-day sentence in 1987 for fighting with a photographer in violation of his probation for a barroom brawl.

Cop-slapping actress Zsa Zsa Gabor served three days behind bars in 1990 at the El Segundo jail near the Los Angeles International Airport. She paid $85 a day.

But the judge in Hilton's case wouldn't allow such an arrangement, so she'll head to Lynwood on June 5.

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge sentenced socialite Paris Hilton to 45 days in jail on May 4, for violating her probation.

Hilton was put on probation after an alcohol related reckless driving offence earlier this year.

Judge Michael Sauer strictly cast off Hilton’s defence that she was misinformed about her license status and ordered the 26-year-old to report to a county detention facility on June 5.

Hilton told the judge she was very sorry and that she would "pay complete attention to everything" from now on.

"I'm very sorry and from now on I'm going to pay complete attention to everything. I'm sorry and I did not do it on purpose at all,” the BBC quoted Hilton, as stating in the courtroom.

Hilton's lawyer, Howard Weitzman, said he would appeal "to modify the sentence."

"To sentence Paris Hilton to jail is uncalled for, inappropriate and ludicrous. She was singled out for who she is. She's been selectively targeted. Paris was honest in her testimony. We plan to appeal. Shame on the system,” Weitzman said.

Hilton was given three years probation earlier this year for pleading no contest to alcohol-related reckless driving after a September 2006 arrest in Hollywood.
She landed in hot water again in late February, when she was pulled over in West Hollywood for driving without headlights. Police confiscated her car, a $190,000 blue Bentley, when they discovered she was driving on a suspended license.

If Hilton fails to report to jail on June 5, she will have to face 90 days behind bars.
