American Idol: Top 10 Results Show Quick Thoughts

Okay, who gets to make it into the top 9 on American Idol? Is the infamous Sanjaya Malakar going to stay alive one more time in the face of overwhelming criticism and backlash among Idol purists? Or, will he benefit from the reverse fandom of those anarchists over at VotefortheWorst and from those inexplicable true fans that he has somehow accumulated over the season? My guess is that Sanjaya stays alive one more time.My predicition: Phil Stacey gets eliminated. After his exquisite performance last night, this would not be just, but justice has not been a common theme this season. What follows are my live, quick thoughts for the episode that I will be updating live as the episode moves along. If anything, we get a performance from the still-lovely Gwen Stefani tonight, so it can't be all bad. The thoughts are below; feel free to comment and give us your two cents

American Idol 3/28 - Bookies Give Vote Off Odds

Last week, the odds makers were unanimous with their American Idol predictions: there was no way in the name of bad music that Sanjaya would be voted off. This week, surprisingly, they have changed their tune putting Sanjaya back in the number one spot for most likely to be shown the door. Why the sudden turnabout? Do they think the growing campaign to foil American Idol by voting Sanjaya to the top is losing strength? Do they know something we don't? If not Sanjaya, who do they suspect will be the next to be sent home from the American Idol stage?

American Idol: Top 10 Performance Grades

The top 10 American Idol hopefuls sang songs under the tutelage of pop star Gwen Stefani last night, and the results were underwhelming (at least compared to last show). There were no great performances, insomuch as a typical Melinda Doolittle performance isn't considered great. In truth, all of her performances have been great, but we're used to that level from her and, therefore, they've begun to sound typical.
As we've been doing for the last month or so, I've given each singer a grade for their performance last night. This is not like the NBA Slam Dunk Contest; I'm not going to give a bunch of A's just because I can. I've yet to give an A-plus, though I'm hopeful it will happen at some point this season (I'm looking at you, Sanjaya). Check out the grades below.

American Idol: Sanjaya might win this thing

Sanjaya Malakar winning American Idol is a worst-case scenario for FOX. It would single-handedly undermine any credibility the show has as a legitimate venue for talent. FOX, therefore, is in an interesting situation right now. Do they milk all this Sanjaya mania as long as possible and hope that voters eventually come to their senses? Or, do they try and guard against the possibility that he might actually win the whole thing, and try to bury him, PR-wise? I don't know what FOX will do, but for those questions to even be relevant, we need to believe that Sanjaya has a chance to win American Idol this year.

The scary thing is, I actually believe this could happen.

'American Idol' down to 9 contestants

NEW YORK - It's over for Chris Sligh. Sligh, the curly-haired jokester who once claimed he was "bringing chubby back," said goodbye to "American Idol" on Wednesday, becoming the latest singer bounced in viewer voting. ADVERTISEMENT The sacking of Sligh, 28, who hails from Greenville, S.C., winnowed the number of "Idol" wannabes to nine. The winner will be chosen in May. "I think it's bye-bye, curly," predicted Simon Cowell, before the results were announced. Cowell said on Tuesday's program that Sligh's rendition of the Police classic "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" was a "mess." Haley Scarnato and Phil Stacey had the next-lowest vote tallies in the phone balloting, which drew more than 30 million calls and text messages. Stacey, 29, of Jacksonville, Fla., managed to get on Cowell's good side after his solid cover of "Every Breath You Take." "This may surprise you, Phil, but I actually thought that was very good," Cowell said Tuesday. The acerbic judge was not as nice to Scarnato, deriding the 24-year-old Texas girl's take on "True Colors" as safe and forgettable. (Question: Will Sanjaya Malakar, who is undoubtedly a national sensation, stick around until the finale? Could happen, as long as the "Idol" oddball keeps stoking watercooler discussion.) Wednesday's elimination show also featured a get-up-and-dance performance by Gwen Stefani and rapper Akon, who performed Stefani's hit single "The Sweet Escape." In its sixth season, "American Idol" continues to rule the ratings. It has attracted 26 million to 37 million viewers per telecast this season.

Lindsay Lohan Says She's Dating

Lindsay Lohan's life has been good post-rehab -- and that includes her social life."I'm dating," Lohan, 20, told PEOPLE Monday at the Los Angeles premiere of Showtime's "The Tudors." "I'm really happy and I'm having fun."
The actress, who split with restaurateur Harry Morton last fall and was recently spotted chilling with Stavros Niarchos at Hollywood hot spot Teddy's, said she'd gleaned some important lessons from her stint at the Wonderland Center in L.A.
"There's no way you can't learn a lot in a program like that, and it's good," she said. "I recommend it for anyone who needs it."
Post-rehab, Lohan has been a nightlife fixture, causing speculation that maybe she hasn't changed her ways. "I'm hearing a lot of [critical] things if I go out, so that always sucks," she said. "But it's like, when do people not say it? They're always going to say things, so I expect it. But I'm feeling really good."
What about those rumors linking her to oil heir Brandon Davis? "No, I'm not dating him," she said, then hinted: "It's no one here."
At the after-party, Lohan hung out in the VIP area at nightclub Les Deux chatting with British pop star Robbie Williams, who himself checked into rehab in February. But Lohan called it a night fairly early: She left Les Deux solo just after 11 p.m.

Don't pit Mallika against me & Ash

Having conquered the global audience with her brave stint on Big Brother Shilpa Shetty is all set to star in an Indian musical on the lines of Bollywood Dreams, that Andrew Llloyd Webber-A.R Rahman musical which changed the destiny of pop-Bollywood culture globally.

Reveals Shilpa, "I'm going to be in an Indian musical on the lines of Bollywood Dreams. Though it will be 'Bollywood' in spirit it will be completely catering to Western sensibilities.

It's a hugely ambitious musical, and I'm very excited. I always wanted to do something like Moulin Rouge or Chicago. This is my chance,"
Farhat Hussein who organizes the big Bollywood concerts in Britain, is going to produce the musical.

"Farhat has very big ambitions for the musical. And if it all goes well it will be the biggest staged extravaganza ever featuring someone from the Mumbai film industry. My schedules are being worked out. But I plan to do it for three months in England, and maybe then take it down to the US and Australia.

Bollywood is so 'in' right now. Post Big Brother, this entire ethnic culture has created such an intrigue all over the world. And Bollywood Dreams did so well so many years ago. The appetite for Bollywood in the West has only increased."

On one end Shilpa is acquiring the reputation of being a spokesperson for racial discrimination and other global issues. On the other end her role as a glamour icon grows.

"Oh, there are numerous projects on the anvil, including a film in British and Indian film from a very reputed company. But that Bill Bannerman film never came to me. And I doubt it went to Ash either. People just presumed we got the offers because maybe we're the names that immediately come to mind.

I'm very happy for Mallika, and I feel she got the role because she suited and deserved it. Please don't make it seem as if she was pitted against us.

As for me, there's the question of whether I'd want to do such a role or not. There're certain compromises I'd never make. I've never made them, so why should I do so now?
So whether it's Hollywood or British films, they've to fit into my scheme of morality. It's very easy for me to sign lucrative deals out here. But I want to make money on my own terms."

Shilpa was in India last week. She attended the Liz-Hurley-Arun Nayar marriage. "When I came back here to London I was horrified when a Reuter journalist asked me if Liz Hurley tried to hitch me up with Imran Khan.

It's such a frivolous question. I mean, just because Imran is Jemima's ex and Liz is Hugh's ex, does it mean we'll come together? Sounds weird, doesn't it?"
Shilpa will be traveling back from London three times in the next month to finish shooting for Anurag Basu's Metro.

"I couldn't finish the film because there were too many combination scenes with Kangana, Shiney Ahuja and Konkona. Trust me, I'm not responsible for the delay. I'm very very proud of Metro. It's turned out very well."

Right now Shilpa is incredibly excited about the Bollywood musical. "After Big Brother I was constantly asked about which films and endorsements I was doing.

Those are fine. But I was looking at expanding my horizon, going to another level. This musical gives me a chance of doing something I always wanted to do."

Mumbai Sways to Shakira

Mumbai: The crowds waited outside Mumbai's MMRDA grounds more than just to shake a leg.

In her first ever concert in India, Latin singer and performer Shakira got a 20,000 strong audience grooving to her tunes.“He wants to watch more than Shakira’s hips. He wants to watch all of her,” said one of the audience.

And when the diva came on stage and made her moves on Sunday evening she got the temperatures soaring.

The 10-time Grammy Award winner shook up the Mumbai's air with her songs and what she is best know for - her belly dancing. Seen in the hordes that came in were names like Farhan Akhtar, VijayMallya, Shahrukh Khan’s wife Gauri and children and choreographer Farah Khan.

Farah, who has incidentally has worked with Shakira in the past, was all praises for the Hips Don’t Lie singer.“Meeting her again was really very nice because she is a very warm and a sweet person. She sent me and husband passes in the morning,” she said.

In her first ever concert in India Shakira performed all her popular numbers from successful albums like Laundry Service and Oral Fixation. And she clearly left her fans fixated.“She is a dream. She is superb,” said actress Perizaad Zorabian.MTV VJ Sophie added, ”She is a wonderful performer and I have always been a very big fan of hers.”The three-hour concert where the Colombian pop star enthralled fans, was a huge sell out.“She was so serene, so unruffled, she was so tranquil, so inevitable that she created an illusion beyond imagination,” one of the audience said.

“I have come from Delhi. I missed my board exam just to see Shakira and it was worth it. I don’t mind sitting in class 12 for another year,” another fan added.
